ROAD REPORT: October 19, 2003
We did it! Sunday the 19th was our first annual Lady Liberty Ride and yes, it could not have been much colder, wetter or gloomier on any given Sunday in October. The beautiful trees in peak color, the crisp fall air, the sharp sweet scent of rotting leaves were not to be enjoyed on this particular ride up to Bear Mountain State Park . Although that was the plan. We passed on the scenic ride over and around the mountain because Sergeant Ruiz of our police escort felt that twisties on a rain soaked, leaf covered slick road and motorcycles were not a good combination. I agreed with his advice, not to mention that the spectacular views from the mountain side were fogged in and not visible. However, as veteran biker's will all agree, "Rider's are a hearty lot!" And ain't it the truth?
I think that one of the reasons no one complained and had great big smiles on their faces, was because it was just too damn much fun having a impressive police motorcycle escort, led by Sergeant Richard Ruiz and his gallant crew. Plus we had 5 fabulous road captains helping with the closing all of the highways exits and entrances for us to ride on. Not to mention the exhilarating feeling of being the only vehicles crossing east bound on the majestic and stately George Washington Bridge as the sun burst out of the cloud cover. The NYC skyline looked beautiful in that fresh after the rains light. We love this city.
Michelle and I feel that the first annual Lady liberty Ride was a huge success. In another week or so when we have finished tallying and counting, we will post the total numbers for all of you.
So next year, The Lady Liberty Ride will be even bigger and the sun will shine. We will get even more women and men to join in the fun. We'll be putting photos on the website with in the next two weeks, So make sure that you check out our web site!
